Besides my aquariums, we have cherished three dogs. Our first was a little Chiwauwa mix named Pepper. Broke our hearts to have to give up Pepper to an adoptive family when we moved to seminary after college. Our other two dogs were German Schnauzers by the names of Sadie and Tilly. Each of our Schnauzers lived fifteen years. Sadie passed away in our arms the day after Christmas in 1996, and Tilly we had to put to sleep just before Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005, the same summer I broke my ankle and had to cancel a trip to Greece—what a rough year all around!

My wife, Jean, is a native of Jackson, Mississippi (really Ridgeland just north of Jackson). We met in college and married our senior year in 1972. We do not have children, but when I was a campus minister, I used to reply to that question, “Yes, we have about 60, and they’re all in college!” Jean is an executive assistant and paralegal of a large law firm with regional offices in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Houston, Jackson, Memphis, Nashville, Mobile, Birmingham, and Washington DC.

While we do not have children, we do have three godchildren, Lindsey, Lauren, and Carissa—our pride and joy. These three lovely ladies belong to our close friends from campus ministry days in Birmingham.

This clip displays the playful energy that we enjoyed all the time from our little Tilly.

These are my office buddies who greet me every morning ready for the new day.
